Movies: One Liner contest and your top 5

Movies. For most of us, they play a significant role in our lives. But what makes a movie quotable? Or a favorite?

CONTEST! I’m holding a contest to see who can correctly identify the most movie one liners and the person who said it, based on the 15 I have quoted in this vlog! Deadline is this Friday at midnight!

Top 5 Movie List: As a writer, I’m very interested in what makes movies memorable and lasting. I’d love to hear your Top Five Movie list, and why they are your favorite. Here’s mine:
Tie for 5th place: Right Stuff (because it’s heroic and based on true events) and Nell (great characters and plot)
4th place: Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure (the wonderfully crafted characters make me howl with laughter!)
3rd place: Singing in the Rain (my favorite of all musicals. I love Gene Kelly, Donald O’Connor and Debbie Reynolds.)
2nd place: Shindler’s List (so inspirational and poignant)
1st place: Les Mes (aside from the Bible, it’s my favorite example of grace and God’s redemption.)
And the movie that stands alone: The Passion of the Christ. (Good timing! Invite friends and watch it again this Easter weekend!)

Can’t wait to hear what your favorites are! And don’t forget the contest! Name those one liners (movie and character who spoke it) Even if you don’t know them all, the person who guesses the most will win. So give it a try! 🙂

About lauriebarkercopeland

I'm just like you, but totally unique. We have things in common, but we are all God's one-of-a-kind creatures. I enjoy finding The Funny in life when it gets messy. And we all know how life can get messy, right? Some of the things I love: God, family, friends, storytelling, community, nature, the arts, beauty, travel, fun and games, learning, the study of the personalities, teenagers, acting, writing and missions. More specifically: the mountains, the beach, breathing clean air, traveling to new places, experiences, deep conversations, appreciating the minute in nature, lunching with girlfriends, practicing sensing, predicting trends, taking a few risks along the way. I hate routine, so starting (and keeping up) this vlog is risky for me...but I love community (and a few risks), so I'm going for it! I hope you join me and we can have some Serious Fun together!

  6. AND THE WINNER IS…………………….
(I’m waiting for the drumroll……..that’s better, thank you….)

TARYN SOUDERS!!!!! Congratulations! I won’t be coming to WW this week. Should I send your prize to you? Or, if I go to Scriptweavers this week, I’ll send it along with Kit.

For those of you who care about how this was judged, here’s how it went: Lilly was first to respond, but she said she didn’t want the prize. (Congrats, Lilly for the Johnny on the Spot Award!) Taryn mistakenly put down “Terminator” twice. BUT she was the only one to correctly identify BOTH characters in the “Shirley” comment. Laura correctly identified them all, but was after Taryn. Jack correctly identified them all, except for one (#6). And Jack, you know I wouldn’t “trick” you!!! 🙂 So how many of you looked these answers up on the web? I didn’t say you couldn’t…. 🙂 Looks like Jack didn’t. I think he did it all from memory!!

And Jan, Jack and Lilly, thanks for sending me your favorite movies. Now I have a new list of great movies to watch! 🙂

Thanks all for playing! Now wasn’t that fun?? 🙂

  7. My top 5…..#5. The Sound of Music. Christopher Plumber won me over as a dad and the way his eyes expressed his love. #4. The Notebook. James Garner is amazing. And the love..that spand the years…and who can deny how incredible the kiss on the dock is?? #3. Young Frankenstein..I don’t believe I ever laughed harder then the first time I saw this film. #2. Other side of the Mountain…the ONLY movie I have seen more then 1 time at a theatre- saw it at least 4 times! Made me laugh, made me cry…I have only seen it once since the year it was released. Yes, yet again the leading man got to me. Beau Bridges. You have to see this one…but feel free to skip the sequel. #1. The Passion of their Christ. This movie moved me beyond words. I have only seen it once and it so impacted me

    • Rachel, I think we view movies in the same way! A movie may be in my top 10 list, but I may have only seen it once or twice. If I saw it any more than that, it would ruin it for me! I just don’t enjoy seeing movies over and over again. A very few. Actually, I saw the very silly BIll and Ted’s Excellent Adventure two times in the theater and probably 3 times on rental. But that’s enough for now! I’ll have to see Other Side of the Mountain. Good suggestion. And The Notebook is in my top 10. I LOVE how it spans the decades and shows “mature” and everlasting love, even in tough times. What a wonderful message! And you and I feel the same way about The Passion of the Christ. All the others don’t even compare.
