For Thicker or Thinner…

For better or worse,
For richer or poorer
In sickness and health
In thicker or thinner…
Oh wait…that’s not in there. Well, it SHOULD be!

Today is John’s and my 31st wedding anniversary and here in this vlog I give you ALL the wisdom about marriage that I have gained in those 30 years! Ha, no, it’s true, people ask us what’s the secret to staying married for so long. It’s a good question considering how marriage throws two people together with opposite personalities, different upbringings, social and political standards, education values and different opinions about anything from child rearing to whether to watch Project Runway or Swamp People. And then we throw children in the mix!

So yeah, it’s a good question…and I give it my best shot at answering it. But the answer may surprise you.

Now it’s your turn…share with our vlogging community what you think it takes for a lasting marriage!

About lauriebarkercopeland

I'm just like you, but totally unique. We have things in common, but we are all God's one-of-a-kind creatures. I enjoy finding The Funny in life when it gets messy. And we all know how life can get messy, right? Some of the things I love: God, family, friends, storytelling, community, nature, the arts, beauty, travel, fun and games, learning, the study of the personalities, teenagers, acting, writing and missions. More specifically: the mountains, the beach, breathing clean air, traveling to new places, experiences, deep conversations, appreciating the minute in nature, lunching with girlfriends, practicing sensing, predicting trends, taking a few risks along the way. I hate routine, so starting (and keeping up) this vlog is risky for me...but I love community (and a few risks), so I'm going for it! I hope you join me and we can have some Serious Fun together!

  1. Laurie, you two got married just months after we did! We celebrated our 31st in June. You’re right, there are many ups and downs. One thing I can remember saying to my kids repeatedly…. “You’ll fall in love with someone and love them for many reasons. But, you’ll also love them in spite of a few others. Hopefully, the former outweigh the latter.” Over 31 years, there are so many reasons we love each other, and so many things we have in common and love to do together. But, there are times that we also enjoy doing something that just we individually are drawn to. That also helps us to maintain other friendships outside of our home.

Happy Anniversary to you and John!

  2. Laurie, Billy and I will be married 33 years November 17th…for us, walking in the Spirit vs. our flesh helps most and giving 100%/100% to each other not 50%/50%..To me, 50/50 is a recipe for failure, but when you lay your lives down for each other, it is a lot easier to overlook the “differences” of “shortcomings” that we all have.
Happy Anniversary! Congratulations to you and John!
