Hello from Ireland!

Standard

Sitting on a windy precipice on the coast of Ireland, Chelsea, Fred and I discuss our experience with a short term missions trip to Ireland!
And be sure to check out ALLLLL the pictures of our trip on my facebook page:  Laurie Barker Copeland

(And yes, I know it’s still September…I just didn’t know when I’d have a chance to get this posted!)  🙂

Hurricanes and Birthdays

Standard

What in the world do hurricanes have to do with birthdays? For one thing, my birthday is smack dab in the middle of the busiest part of hurricane season. (A fact I didn’t know growing up in Rochester, NY, as I celebrated it up over Labor Day weekend–the weekend before school started. But I digress…) Anyway, join guest vlogger Sandi Lacey and I as we discuss–oh, so intellectually–the similarities between hurricanes and birthdays. Then, if YOU have celebrated a birthday in the last year…um…that means YOU…drop us a comment and let us know if your birthday was hurricane related or not. 🙂

Crazy Waves!

Standard

Can you relate to not being able to relax and just float on the waves? Floating on your back and relaxing takes a bit of vulnerability. I mean, what if a big huge wave comes up and crashes on your face and goes up your nose? 🙂

This week, I have guest vloggers Devon Lang and Kailey Copeland tells us (in a very 21 year old animated style) about their recent experience at the beach. Join us! It’s entertaining with a spiritual twist! 🙂

Then leave us a comment about times when it was hard for you to “float on your back and let go.”

Janna in Swaziland, Africa

Standard

Wow. Sorry about that obnoxious “Hi” in the very beginning. Okay, now that THAT’S out of the way…..

What would make a beautiful 20 something young lady, living in San Diego, want to up and join the Peace Corp, leaving family, friends and comfort at home? Watch this video, as I interview my niece Janna, a few days before she “shipped out.” She left yesterday. Please pray for her and she embarks on her 2 year journey. (Sorry to those who found an earlier-taped, playful, but not serious video of this same subject on YouTube. I was showing her how the blog works, and we taped that one, and I left it up there, thinking no one would find it, but some did! 🙂 I thought that was pretty funny-considering how silly it was. Janna just brings the “silly” out in me.)  Follow her adventures at http://www.jannaswazilandadventures.wordpress.com

Ponderables: Why Can’t I Be More Techy?

Standard

Ok, I never claimed to be a techy. As a matter of fact, I pretty much stink at technical things. It’s a modern day miracle that I’ve actually learned how to post videos! (It took blood, sweat, and a few tears with my ever-patient and techy husband.)

Because I’m so non-techy, today’s vlog was cut off, and my guest vlogger, Twila Belk and I weren’t even aware of it!  (Imagine us talking on and on and it not even recording.  Anyone else ever been there?)

So I’ve decided to still post the vlog, but make it half-vlog/half-blog. Twila and I were talking ponderables, and Twila was on a roll.  Too bad the video camera stopped.  (Of COURSE it’s the camera’s error…certainly not OPERATOR’S error! Haha)

So let’s make lemonade out of lemons and continue to ponder…

Twila:  Why did Cleopatra wear a veil? (Was it to hide chin hairs?)

Twila:  Did the virtuous woman in Proverbs 31 shave her legs?

Twila:  Why do restaurants offer small, medium, and large drinks when they give free refills?

Twila:  If we gathered up all our dust, could we create a man?

Laurie (but not original, just one of my favs): If the number 2 pencil is the most popular, why is it still number 2?

Laurie:  Why can’t a woman over the age of 50 be smarter and more technically minded than a 7 year old?

Now it’s your turn! What ponderable have you been pondering recently? What doesn’t make sense to you? Or what question of yours has never been answered? Or did you ever have a “Tech Moment?”  Spill it, girlfriend! 🙂  (Or guy friend…)

Human Trafficking in America: Hear Kat’s story

Standard

Tune in and listen to Kat’s story. Kat became–unbeknownst to her–involved in human trafficking right here in America. Her story was told to World Vision, on channel 6 here locally, and other national ministries are asking her to share her story. I was fortunate enough to have a little chat with her for our vlog, and asked the question, “how could this happen to a normal American girl?” It’s a little longer than my normal vlog, but it’s worth hearing about God’s redeeming love in her life now. Pray for Kat and how God is going to use Kat’s story. (PS Apologies for the weird close-up camera angles where one of us is cut off. I was holding the camera out in front of me, since it was just Kat and me in the room.)
